Discovering Sailing as an Adult and Inspiring the Next Generation

Fiona came to sailing later in life, starting with an RYA Level 1 course at Oxford Sail Training. What began as a curiosity quickly grew into a passion. She progressed through Levels 2 and 3, took part in our Intro to Catamarans course, and even completed Start Racing, embracing every opportunity to build her skills and confidence on the water.
Her dedication and enthusiasm were infectious, and Fiona soon became a regular sailor at Oxford Sailing Club, where she continues to enjoy the thrill and freedom of the sport.
Sailing quickly became more than just a personal hobby; it became a family activity. Inspired by her own positive experience, Fiona enrolled her children onto our Aquanauts course. They’ve now caught the sailing bug themselves and are loving their time out on the water, learning and growing through fun, safe, and supportive sessions.
Fiona’s journey shows that it’s never too late to take up a new sport. Her story is a great example of how adult participation can create lasting change, not only for the individual but for the whole family. We’re proud to have played a part in her sailing journey and to welcome the next generation she’s inspired.
